The name of the next Alfa Romeo 147 is not Milano

27 novembre 2009

According to our sources, it seems that Alfa Romeo will abandon the Milano name. A choice taken after Fiat decided to close what remains of the old Alfa Romeo production site of Arese, near Milan.

NAME CHANGES - The Fiat top management decided not to call Milano its new Alfa Romeo compact sedan, the car that will make its debut in the next Geneva Motorshow. The decision has been taken today just in time for the meeting between Marchionne and Italian Minister of Economic Development, Scajola, where the Fiat industrial plan for the next years will be revealed.

Choosing the name Milano did not seem so appropriate now that Fiat decided to move to Turin what remains of the old Alfa Romeo production near Milan. The final closure of Arese (where until now was located only the design deparment, called Centro Stile) is just one of the many matters in the “fight” between Fiat, trade unions and the Italian Government started after Fiat announced the closure of its Sicilian factory in Termini Imerese.
